9. Volendam

Volendam is a picturesque old fishing village that’s less than an hour from Amsterdam by bus. You’ll see a historic harbor full of Dutch ships, some of which still exist!

This trip from Amsterdam taking around one hour is incomplete without sampling a few delectable fish dishes — finally conquer your fear of harings (herrings) and smoked eels or stick to the delicious kibbelings (steamed cod)!
